APD Screenings

Auditory Processing Disorder

Auditory processing disorder (APD) refers to difficulties in processing auditory information in the brain, and for some people this leads to persistent challenges in daily life.

APD can be diagnosed and treated by an APD Specialised Audiologist.

Individuals with APD have normal hearing sensitivity (i.e. audiogram shows normal hearing across the speech spectrum, 250Hz - 8kHz), however they display hearing difficulties in challenging situations such as when in the presence of competing or distracting sounds, or when listening to lengthy instructions or complex information.

They may experience difficulties in receiving, organising and understanding speech, and may also experience difficulties in recalling auditory information or retrieving information from their auditory memory. APD symptoms vary greatly from person to person.

At Arches Audiology, we include APD screening questionnaires in our standard diagnostic audiological assessment, when relevant.

We do this as we care deeply about empowering communities with health information, encourage early intervention and provide a holistic approach to your health care. We aim to gain an overall picture of your listening behaviour, educational impacts and social wellbeing.
